Te Rereatukahia marae is located in Katikati, and its principal hapū is Ngāi Tamawhariua. The original wharenui, Tamapeke, was built on the flat by the river. The wharenui was then moved to its present site soon after WW1, it was a horse stable shifted on to the site and named 'Niu Tireni'. In 1958, the stable was demolished and a new wharenui built in the same position. The wharenui was named after their enonymous tupuna, Tamawhariua.
