Description | WhakamāramaNgāti Te Rangihouhiri also settled on Te Awa o Te Atua, near Matatā, to carefully view the pā in Maketu and the lands of Tapuika, under the chief Tatahau. The area was later named Whakapau Kōrero after an event where Te Rangihouhiri's eldest son died at the battle of Herekakī in Maketu, and hearing of his death, uttered his his final prophecy, "haere rā e tama, mōu tai ahiahi, mōku tai awatea - farewell my son, go on the evening tide and I shall follow on the morning tide".
